‘Pilot project’ Printen factory as an Impulse for the district of Broichweiden
‘Pilotprojekt’ Printenfabrik als Impuls für den Stadtteil Broichweiden
Die traditionsreiche Geschichte des Gebäckspezialisten Kinkartz in Würselen-Broichweiden ist nach Einstellung der Produktion 2015 zu Ende gegangen. Aufgrund seiner Größe und zentralen Lage hat die Entwicklung des ehemaligen Fabrikgeländes eine große Bedeutung für den Stadtteil Broichweiden: Am ehemaligen Produktionsstandort soll in den kommenden Jahren durch einen stattgefundenen Landeswettbewerb ein zukunftsfähiges Wohnquartier als städtebauliches Vorzeigeprojekt entwickelt werden.
Im Rahmen meiner Bachelorthesis galt es, zurück und nach vorne zu schauen: Einerseits auf stattgefunden Wettbewerb zurück zu schauen und sich mit der Fragestellung zu beschäftigen, ob Wettbewerbe als qualitätssichernde Verfahren neuen Raumansprüchen und Bedürfnissen der lokalen Bevölkerung gerecht werden. Ebenso galt es nach vorne zu schauen, um durch Partizipation in Wettbewerbsverfahren neue Impulse setzen und neue Rollenverständnisse und Steuerungsbedarfe aufzeigen zu können.
The traditional history of the biscuit specialist Kinkartz in Würselen-Broichweiden came to an end when production ceased in 2015. Due to its size and central location, the development of the former factory site is of great importance for the Broichweiden district: In the coming years, a sustainable residential quarter is to be built on the former production site as a showcase urban development project, which emerged from a state competition that has already been held.
As part of my bachelor’s thesis, it was important for me to take a look back and forward: On the one hand, to look back at the competitions that have taken place and to deal with the question of whether competitions as quality-assuring procedures can meet new spatial requirements and the needs of the population. On the other hand, it was important to look ahead in order to be able to set new impulses through participation in competition procedures and to demonstrate new understandings of roles and steering requirements.
